Thank you to everyone who submitted photos to our first Local Harvest Photo Contest! We had many beautiful submissions that chronicled local agriculture in the Pioneer Valley. Our judges selected three winners who received River Valley Market gift cards, and three honorable mentions. All are posted below.

Second Prize: MJ Maccardini: I took this photo at 2:54 pm on Sunday, September 4, 2011 at the student community garden at Smith College. The garden, which is on Prospect Street, is new this year and the students have done a lovely job with it. It had been raining in the morning, and water was still clinging to the cabbage leaves when I shot this.

3rd Prize: Tom Adams: Blueberries coming down the belt, being sorted before they fall into sorting box, August 7, 2011, The Benson Place, Heath, MA, inside sorting barn/farm stand

Honorable Mention: Karen Sullivan: Tomatoes from Town Farm purchased at the Tuesday Market. Photo taken in our kitchen window on August 31, 2011.

Honorable Mention: Sharon Rudnitzsky: I bought the shell peas at the Northampton Farmer's Market. I shelled them at home in Haydenville, on my back porch on a lovely sunny day. I shelled the peas with care, and had my eyes open for one that was full of big, beautiful peas all snuggled together in their pod. I had to handle it with a lot of care so that the delicate peas stayed attached to their pod. Oh yeah. . .did I mention that the peas were juicy and absolutely delicious!
